What can I expect from therapy?
Decision
It can often feel like taking an inescapable plunge when you decide to enter a delicate process such as therapy, letting another know what’s really troubling you. However, you can take it for granted that our work will be handled smoothly and with the greatest respect.
From the outset, all communication, including the initial contact by phone or Zoom call (15-20 minutes), will be confidential (with some exceptions which I can outline when we first meet) and I abide by the UKCP Code of Ethics, so you can be assured that your therapy is treated with the utmost consideration and professionalism.
During the initial contact and after the disclosure of the limits of confidentiality, we can discuss a snapshot of what brings you to therapy, what you hope to achieve, how we might be able to work together in the most effective way, and any questions you might have for me.
Therapy
If we decide to work together, sessions are typically one hour long and I recommend that they take place weekly though I’m always happy to adjust the frequency to suit your needs and lifestyle.
My therapeutic approach is flexible, collaborative, and centred around you. At the heart of my practice is the person-centred philosophy: I believe you are the expert on your own life. I’ll meet you wherever you are. Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or simply unsure, we’ll work together to move toward greater clarity, self-understanding, and emotional ease.
Depending on what you bring into our sessions, I may draw on a range of therapeutic tools. These include:
Hypnosis and guided trance work, to help access deeper parts of your experience or create a sense of calm and safety.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) and psychodynamic work, to gently explore the roots of emotional patterns.
Gestalt techniques, to help you notice and work through present-moment experiences in a safe space.
CBT and Transactional Analysis, for understanding thought patterns and relational dynamics.
Or, when needed, we can simply have a grounded, existential conversation so we can have a space for honest reflection about your place in the world, what matters most to you, and how you want to live.
But beyond techniques and modalities, the real work happens in our therapeutic relationship in feeling seen, heard, and not judged. So rather than list every possible method here, I invite you to get in touch.
Let’s arrange a free consultation where you can share what’s on your mind, ask any questions, and get a feel for whether working together feels right.
